As you guys already know, keeping my fashion choices both vegan & eco-friendly is of utmost importance to me. And of course, we canβt forget about ethical production either. I quickly learned how limited my options were for warm winter sweaters that checked all of these boxes. But as always proven to be true, when you search hard enough you will always find exactly what youβre looking for!
ETHICALLY PRODUCED
Letβs be honest, if weβre going this far to make sure our garments arenβt harming the animals or the environment, why stop there? How our clothing is being made is never to be overlooked. I always try to support brands that are super transparent in their supply chains (not all that common to come across!) and that are supporting local artisans or giving back to the people that are working so hard to produce their clothing.
I do not wear or sell clothes, shoes or furnishings made with the skins, hair or feathers of other animals, including fur, leather, wool, feathers and silk. I sell, wear and use plant fabrics such as cotton, linen or hemp, and man made materials such as polyester, acrylic or nylon. Vegan shoes are much more widely available now than in the past and the range of styles and the quality has increased dramatically in recent years. In addition to being free of animal exploitation, vegan clothes can be green too. Hemp and linen have seen a resurgence as strong, durable and versatile fabrics, vintage and secondhand clothes are on the rise, and synthetic materials are increasingly being recycled.
Animals exist for their own reasons and belong in their own habitat with other members of their species, not in artificial environments created for human entertainment and profit. I do not visit circuses with animals, zoos, safari parks, aquariums, or any other places where animals are kept for the benefit of humans. I generally support animal sanctuaries however, where the animals have been rescued from places of exploitation, as well as wildlife rescue centers and wildlife reserves, and it is also possible to respectfully observe animals in their own habitats.
